GIFAP calls for general mobilization for the mackerel fishery

GIFAP is urgently appealing to recreational anglers and maritime sector players to mobilize, in response to the government's draft quota limiting mackerel fishing to 5 fish per angler per day for the 2026 season.

GIFAP (Groupement des Industriels et Fabricants d'Articles de Pêche) is the trade association dedicated to defending the interests (economic, technical and regulatory) of manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of fishing tackle on the French market.

Background

The French government is considering introducing a strict quota for mackerel (a very popular species for recreational fishing).
This measure, perceived as having been decided without prior consultation, is of great concern to fishermen, tackle stores and coastal businesses, who fear major economic and cultural impacts.

The emergency

  • Public consultation underway, open until midnight March 12.
  • That leaves less than 48 hours to leave a review.
  • This consultation allows all citizens and professionals to give their opinion on the quota project.

How to get involved

Access the consultation via the Ministry's official link :
consultations-publiques.developpement-durable.gouv.fr (article 3308)

Simply fill in the form, which takes about 2 minutes.

Argue for the importance of preserving recreational fishing and its educational and economic role, while reiterating your commitment to sustainable resource management.

Collective mobilization

Remember to relay information:

  • In-store, with fishing customers.
  • On social networks and local fishing groups.
  • Via sea-fishing clubs or associations.
