Fish with live redfish, look for large predators

Deep-sea fishing with a red snapper (also known as horse mackerel) is a highly effective technique for targeting large marine predators such as amberjacks and cuttlefish, both from shore and from boats.

Quickly make a live wire

To catch redfish quickly, you need to use soft lures (micro shads, finesse) or casting jigs, animate quickly in a linear pattern in the right layer of water, explore different depths, and favour dynamic animations such as darting. These techniques allow you to trigger frequent attacks and multiply your catches, especially in harbours and on dykes.

Be careful not to bring in reindeer by force, as their jaws are fragile and will unhook more easily.

Why use the sévereau as a vifâeuros¯?

The redfish is a robust pelagic fish, very resistant on the hook and able to swim for a long time, which makes it attractive to marine predators.

It is a natural prey for large predators (amberjacks, liches, tassergals, etc.), which increases the chances of hits.

Recommended installation and equipment

A powerful rod (2 to 2.70âeuros¯m, 80 to 200âeuros¯g power) and a sturdy reel (size 5000 to 20000) fitted with 0.18 to 0.30âeuros¯mm braid and a 0.50 to 0.80âeuros¯mm nylon leader, are ideal for fighting the biggest fish.

You can use a circle hook n°5/0 to 7/0, which is generally placed at the head of the screen, allowing automatic hooking and limiting hitching. You can also weight the rig with an olive (3 to 15 euros¯grams) depending on depth and current.

For shore fishing with a livebait, the cableway rig is widely used. It allows the livebait to swim freely and attract predators in shallow areas.

Directions for use

  • Cast lightly or simply lay the live redfish down gently so as not to injure it, then let it swim free. It quickly attracts predators lurking near coasts or structures.
  • Don't use a circle hookâeuros¯ to strike the bait: the shape of the hook ensures optimum self-holding.
  • In the event of multiple bites, quickly return another live one to the water, as predators often hunt in schools.

Searching for large predators

The redfish is a lively fish of choice when fishing for large marine predators. Used live on a sturdy rig, it is ideal for targeting amberjacks, hinds and other predators, both from shore and drifting in a boat.
