The Humminbird Helix 7G4N echo sounder and its features

The Helix 7G4N is a good compromise between performance, screen size, footprint and functionality. It's a great choice for anglers, especially carp anglers who use a boat.

The Helix range

The Helix range from Humminbird, distributed by Navicom, is constantly adding new and interesting features. The Helix is available in several versions, including connected versions. Let's take a look at the features offered by the Helix 7G4N.

Connected versions of Helix models are identified by the letter N (Network). The Helix 7G4N are connected versions of the Helix range.

These connected versions include 3 models: the Helix 7G4N Chirp (Dual Spectrum), the Helix 7G4N MDI (Mega Down Imaging + Dual Spectrum) and the Helix 7G4N MSI (Mega Side Imaging + MDI + DS).

Helix 7G4N Chirp

Dual Spectrum offers two coverage modes. A wide mode for maximum coverage and a narrow mode for maximum detail. Traditionally known as 2D, for a view of what's happening in front of the boat.

Helix 7G4N MDI

Mega Down Imaging offers clarity up to 40 m below the boat. 3 times more precise than previous Down Imaging. Of course, this model also features Dual Spectrum.

Helix 7G4N MSI

This is the combination of the two previous models plus the Mega Side Imaging. The Mega Side Imaging offers an extremely clear view of the seabed, up to 40 m on either side of the boat. Mega Side Imaging is 3 times more precise than the Side Imaging of yesteryear.

The new models feature a double SD port on the front panel, allowing a zero line card to be inserted for Autochart Live, and a navigation map to be left permanently in place.

Like the larger screen sizes, it also features 3 direct-access "shortcut" keys on the front panel and, above all, a new 1024 x 600 pixel HD image resolution.

The benefits

The big advantage of these N (Network) models is their network compatibility (Ethernet, Wifi, NMEA 2000, One-Boat), i.e. you can connect them to any Humminbird or Minnkota compatible device: 2 ème screen, electric motor, Mega Live probe and much more. Note that at least one MDI model is required for the Mega Live probe. Mega Live compatibility also means Target Lock compatibility.

In short, the Helix 7G4N has the same capabilities as its big brothers. These include :

  • Mega Live compatibility
  • Bathymetric monitoring from Minnkota engine and Ipilot link
  • Full sunlight color display
  • IPX7 waterproofing
  • Integrated GPS antenna

The Helix range from Humminbird (distributed in France by Navicom) continues to innovate. Connected models with ever more impressive technologies (Mega Live ...) give echo sounders a whole new dimension. The Helix 7G4N is a perfect example.
